Venue

The Free Hanseatic City of Bremen is an international seaport and trading center close to the North Sea, an independent state of the Federal Republic of Germany, consisting of the cities of Bremen and Bremerhaven, covering an area of 400 square kilometres (the smallest of the 16 German states). The two-city state is an important location for German engineering competencies in automobile manufacture, electronics, steel, shipbuilding and the aerospace industry. Additionally, it plays a leading role in the food processing industry, for example for coffee, beer, chocolate and spices. In recent years, the city has rapidly changed into a location for service and high-tech industry.

Bremen‘s history goes back over 1,200 years and can be encountered everywhere: The baroque and renaissance backdrop of the Market Square, the Town Hall and the Roland statue (UNESCO World Heritage site), the patrician houses, or the old-city quarters Schnoor and Böttcherstrasse are examples of the many historical places to discover. The Free Hanseatic City of Bremen always played a major role as trading and commercial centre and seaport: in mediaeval times as a key player among the towns of the Hanseatic League, and today as the second largest foreign trade location in Germany.

Finally, Bremen is a place where people know how to enjoy life. It is a town with over 1,000 pubs, cafés, restaurants, bistros and bars, where lifestyle and relations between people are based on the principles of freedom, tolerance and liberality.

Useful Visitor Information

Accommodation

We do not recommend any particular accommodation in Bremen since individual requirements and likes/dislikes vary widely, however we have negotiated special conference rates for some hotels near the University of Bremen as well as in the city centre. If you choose an accommodation in the city centre there is a direct tram connection departing every few minutes towards the University which will take you to the conference in approximately 20 minutes.

Directions to the Conference

Tram Line - 6 connects the Airport with the University stopping at the city center (Domsheide) as well as the main station on its way. The final stop of the tram heading towards University is called "Klagenfurter Strasse" and is located directly next to BIBA. From the Airport it is a 10 minutes ride to the city center and from there another 20 minutes to BIBA. A map is provided for orientation. Of course Taxis are an alternative for getting around as well. Since there are no large distances between the different locations the fares are rather moderate.
